St. John Frizell


St. John (pronounced SIN-jin) got his start in the culinary world as a copy editor at Bon Appétit, but quit in 2005 to travel the world in the footsteps of legendary bon vivant and cocktail culture writer Charles H. Baker, Jr. Upon his return stateside, St. John learned the art of mixology at Pegu Club, and opened Fort Defiance, his critically-acclaimed cafe-bar in Red Hook, Brooklyn, in 2009. Gage & Tollner marries St. John’s love of historical research, perfectly-made classic cocktails, and oysters Rockefeller.
